More Support for Aquaculture Research at Otter Ferry Seafish

Dr Eduardo Jimenez Fernandez, Head of R&D at Otter Ferry Seafish

We’re pleased to share some great news from our colleagues at Otter Ferry Seafish’s R&D department in Scotland. Their ongoing work to advance sustainable aquaculture has received a significant funding boost, strengthening efforts to develop knowledge and innovation through improved research capacity and infrastructure.

The team has been awarded funding from the Marine Fund Scotland, covering 50% of the project costs — the maximum allowed funding level. This support represents a strong recognition of the project’s potential and impact, and highlights the important role Otter Ferry plays in driving progress within Scottish aquaculture.

“The Marine Fund Scotland grant will allow Otter Ferry Seafish to upgrade our water intake, filtration, chilling, and heat recovery systems. These improvements will enhance temperature control, reduce energy consumption, and enable us to scale up our broodstock programmes — thereby increasing overall production capacity,” says Dr Eduardo Jimenez Fernandez, Head of R&D at Otter Ferry Seafish. “This investment strengthens the Scottish halibut sector and contributes to the diversification of Scottish aquaculture, supporting sustainable seafood production.”

The Otter Ferry R&D department continues to play a vital role in advancing aquaculture research and development, combining hands-on expertise with a strong spirit of collaboration. Through projects like this, the team contributes to new knowledge, technologies, and methods that help shape the future of aquaculture in Scotland and beyond.

At Amar Seafood, we’re proud to see this progress and to support the continued development of world-class research at our Otter Ferry location.
