Progress for New Halibut Seasite at Helsøya, Hitra

We’re pleased to share an important development in Amar Seafood’s work to expand sea-based halibut farming in Norway.

Amar Seafood has applied for a new aquaculture site, Helsøya II, located in Hitra municipality in Trøndelag. The site is planned for the production of Atlantic halibut with a maximum allowed biomass (MTB) of 3,900 tonnes.

As part of the application process, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) has now granted conditional approval related to fish health and animal welfare. This includes clearance to establish an open sea aquaculture facility at the Helsøya II location.

In its assessment, Mattilsynet concludes that the proposed site can meet requirements for fish health and biosecurity, and that the planned operation provides a good foundation for ensuring the species’ welfare and living conditions.

«This is an exciting step for us. Helsøya II is a strong location with the right conditions for halibut farming, and we’re really looking forward to continuing the development of the site. It’s great to see the work we’ve put into this project reflected in the assessment, » says Anders Sæther, Amar Seafood.

This marks an important step forward in the development of Helsøya II and reflects the thorough work carried out in planning the site and its operations.

At Amar Seafood, we remain committed to responsible growth and to developing high-quality halibut farming. We look forward to continuing the process and sharing further updates as the project progresses.
